The Tshwane Metro region is the home of over 100 embassies and foreign missions. The climate in general is moderate. Day temperatures range from 15°C to 30°C in summer and from 6°C to 23°C in winter. Average temperatures are lower in the southern parts of the city. In summer the days can be hot, at times over 30°C. Winter nights can be cold with temperatures below freezing at times. Frost does occur in parts of the City in winter but the days are usually quite pleasant. The area enjoys approximately 300 sunshine days a year. Pretoria was established by President Marthinus Wessel Pretorius in 1855. The initial full designation of the city was Pretoria Philadelphia ('the brotherhood of Pretoria') and it was not named after M.W. Pretorius, but after his brother Andries. In December 2000, the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality was established. The metropolitan authority was formed from thirteen city councils that were amalgamated. The hub of Pretoria has always been Church Square, although it was initially called Market Square. This was where the first church was built. It was a mud-walled building. It was replaced by a much grander structure after it burnt down in 1882. Open markets were regularly held in the Square. An Englishman, Albert Broderick, established himself as shopkeeper. He was christened Albertus Broodryk, by his Afrikaans friends and customers. He also ran the community's first bar, the 'Hole-in-the-Wall'. The geography of Pretoria is dominated by three parallel west-east quartzite ridges, which are the result of millions of years of erosion. The northern ridge is called the Magaliesberg, south of the Magalies is a ridge called the Daspoortrand, the Silverton ridge and the Bronberge. The most southern ridge consists of the Schurveberg, Kwaggasrant, Langeberge, Schanskop, Klapperkop and Waterkloof Ridge. Pretoria North - Geographic Location “Pretoria North” or simply “the North” are the names commonly used when referring the suburbs situated in Akasia, a municipal sub-structure of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. Pretoria North/Akasia is situated to the North West of the Pretoria CBD, flanked to the South by the picturesque Magaliesberg Mountain conservation area and to the East by the “mighty” Apies River, traversed so courageously by Sir Winston Churchill during the Anglo-Boer War. Akasia offers every conceivable amenity to the property owner and has been identified by the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality as its development area of choice. Our area has seen vast infra structure upgrades and residential development over the past 5 years with the resulting positive impact on property values. The N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway is within easy reach from anywhere in Akasia, along with the R80 Western bypass. The North is well known for offering anything you may need and many of its residents hardly venture beyond its borders. Pretoria North also has a climate distinctly warmer than the rest of Pretoria, being North of the Magaliesberg Mountain. Pretoria North / Akasia suburbs include Pretoria North, Florauna, Ninapark, Amandasig, Dorandia, Theresapark, Heatherdale, Karenpark, The Orchards, Chantelle, Rosslyn, Soshanguve and Ga-Rankuwa. A vast area indeed with an equally vast variety of real estate on offer. |
